The United States Army 32nd Field Hospital in the Italian Campaign of World War II

Annual Medical History of the 32nd Field Hospital

On January 17, 1945, the commander of the 32nd Field Hospital, Lt. Colonel Robert J. Griffin, submitted the "Annual Medical History of the 32nd Field Hospital" to the Surgeon General of the U.S. Army in Washington D.C. It is interesting as it supplies critical information on the movement on the 32nd Field Hospital during the Italian Campaign of World War II. Because of this, the document was classified as SECRET at the time. This document and many others were "de-classified shortly after the war and was become a part of our nation's history of that war. It was a photo-copied document and was found in an old booklet about the 32nd Field Hospital in the 1970s. This original document may have been destroyed in the National Archives fire in St. Louis in the 2000s and may be the only known copy of the document. It was 21 pages long and in very poor condition. The photo-copy was was scanned into a JPEG file and an extensive restoration was done on it. The restoration helped to make it more readable.
