Sharon Eileen Moffitt, 81, passed quietly on September 6, 2023. She was predeceased by her parents, Ira Williams and Phyllis Edwards.
Sharon is survived by Lee, her loving husband of 62 years; son Stephen Moffitt and his wife Padideh Tosti; daughter Rebecca Kirkwood and her husband Kevin; daughter Jennifer Ly and her husband Zung; and brother Larry Williams and his wife, Pat. Sharon was the proud grandmother of five amazing grandchildren.
Sharon was born and raised in East Moline, IL. She and Lee were married in 1961, and moved to Palo Alto, CA. They later moved to Colorado Springs, and Boulder, CO. All three children were born in Colorado. In 1973 the family moved to Freehold, NJ. Sharon and Lee moved to Applewood in 2016. She enjoyed being with old and new friends there.
Sharon found meaning and purpose for her life through her faith and her participation in the life of the church and in volunteer service in the community. Sharon was a lifelong Lutheran. At the time of her passing, she was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Freehold, and had been active in the Women of Hope group. Sharon gave generously of her time over the years. including a one-year Diaconate at a Lutheran Home in Jersey City, NJ.
Since the founding of the Open Door food pantry in Freehold, Sharon volunteered in a variety of capacities, including serving on the board of directors. At Applewood, Sharon participated in the work of Applewood’s Interfaith Worship activity, arranging clergy visits for the weekly service.
In addition to raising her family and her volunteer work, Sharon worked outside the home. For several years, she was a Teacher’s Aide in the Freehold Township school system. She worked as a Home Health Aide at Monroe Village, Monroe, NJ, and at Applewood Estates. She also served as an Outreach Associate for Interfaith Neighbors’ meals on wheels program. She received an AA degree from Brookdale Community College.
Sharon will be sorely missed by her family and friends. A Memorial Service will be held at Hope Lutheran Church on September 16 at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Open Door.
