George E. "Butch" Miller, 71, Colona, died Tuesday, June 17, 2014, at Genesis
Medical Center, Silvis.
Visitation is 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline. In lieu
of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation.
George was born on Dec. 19, 1942, in Moline, the son of Richard and Muriel
Hoskins Miller. He graduated from United Township High School, Class of 1960.
He served active duty in the U.S. Navy. During his service, he was stationed on
the carrier Bonhomme Richard during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He had worked at
the former Rick's Lawn and Garden, East Moline, and most recently retired from
Lift Systems, East Moline. He married Janet Stock in 1981. She preceded him in
death in 2010.
Butch enjoyed fishing, tinkering in his garage and was an air cooled engine
specialist. He was a member of the Studebaker club.
Survivors include his children, Ronald Miller, Mineral, Va., Randy Stock, Lynn
Center, and Marshall "Mike" Miller, Coal Valley; three grandchildren; a
great-granddaughter; and siblings, Gary Miller, East Moline, Don Miller Sr.,
Hampton, Jane White, Davenport, and Carol Sue Guthrie, Silvis; and a special
friend, Doris Brasmer.
