Obituaries

Gary Lee Johnson, 72, of Forward Township, formerly of Lakewood, Ohio, passed away Saturday at VNA Inpatient Hospice in Butler.
Born on Jan. 6, 1942, in Moline, Ill., he was the son of the late Vernon E. and Virginia (Stillwagon) Johnson Sr.
Gary graduated from United Township High School in East Moline, Ill., in 1960, and from Cedarville University in Cedarville, Ohio, in 1966, with a bachelor's of science degree in accounting. He was a continual supporter of the scholarship and sports programs of the university.
Gary was employed by the Public Employees Department for the state of Ohio as an auditor/supervisor for 30 years before his retirement in 1997.
He was very active in the Jaycees and community projects while living in Washington Court House, Ohio, in the early 1970s. Gary was always an avid sports fan from his high school days to cheering for his favored professional teams such as the Cleveland Browns, Indians and Cavaliers.
He married Margaret Jane Steel in 1969, and she preceded him in death in 2001. Gary married Nancy Warkentin Rader on July 2, 2011, and moved to the Evans City area.
He is survived by his children, Brian Lee (Lisa) Johnson of Brook Park, Ohio, Anna Beth (Eric) Kiss of Alexandria, Va., and David William Johnson of Worthington, Ohio; his brother, Don (Kay) Johnson of Grove Port, Ohio; his sister, Nancy (Mark) Leach of Worthington, Ohio; and his nephew, Benjamin MacBeth, and many dearly loved members of the Steele family.
Also surviving are his stepsons, Eric (Jeanette) Rader of Greenville, S.C., Scott (Leanne) Rader of Renfrew and David (Mary) Rader of Marshall, Mich.; and his grandchildren and step-grandchildren, Charles, Christopher, Christian and Lauren Johnson, Adeline Margaret Kiss, Shelby, Ryan, Daniel, Rebekah, Lydia, Jakob, Wyatt and Madeline Rader.
In addition to his parents and his first wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, Vernon Jr.
JOHNSON - A memorial service for Gary Lee Johnson, who passed away Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Hillcrest Baptist Church, 771 Mercer Road, Butler.
The funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Boylan Funeral Home, 116 E. Main St., Evans City.
