Katherine "Kathy" Arlene Mitton, 81, of Hillsdale, IL, died Friday, December 8, 2023, at her home surrounded by family. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Rapids City, IL. Visitation will be from 4:00pm–7:00pm Monday at Gibson – Bode Funeral Home, Port Byron. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline. Memorials may be made to the Richard and Kathy Mitton Scholarship fund at Riverdale High School.
Kathy was born September 8, 1942 in Moline, IL, the daughter of Elmer and Marguerite (Smith) Ely. She graduated from United Township High School in 1960. She married Richard "Dick" E. Mitton on December 29, 1967. Kathy worked at the State Hospital in East Moline, where she met her husband, Dick. She took time away from work while raising her kids and then went back to work at Riverdale High School as the Guidance Office secretary. She enjoyed following her grandkids' activities, playing cards, meeting her friends for breakfast and hosting taco nights at her home. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Rapids City.
Kathy is survived by her children: Rich (Cara Lisa) Mitton, Oklahoma City, OK, Tara (Eirik) Oleson, Cordova, Randy (Gayle) Clevenger, Mt. Airy, MD, Marty (Margie) Clevenger, Brimfield, IL, Jill (Walt) Coussens, Cordova, Janna (Charlie) Cox, Davenport, JoEtta Catterton, Moline; sister, Elaine Pease, Silvis; sisters-in-law: Jean Mitton, Geneseo and Martha Ely, Clayton, NC; grandchildren: Lauren, RJ, Austin, Nicole, Kylie, Katelyn, Makayla, Casey, Charles, Katie, Kendra, Corey; eight great-grandchildren; several special nieces and nephews; and two lifelong loyal friends: Carolyn DeBlieck and Joan DeCap.
