Story
behind the Mexican Jewels....
All six
of us made it back for our MHS Class of '61's 35th reunion - maybe it was the
first time all of us were there at the same time - not sure. Anyway, we
had such a blast that we didn't want to disconnect and made a decision to start
meeting at least once a year - Sandy volunteered to plan something in Chicago
the next summer and we were off on our adventure of friendship and fun times.
We haven't missed a year in the last 10 and have shared the joys of new
grandchildren (and great-grandchildren in Sandy's case!) and the sorrows of
losing our parents. Coincidentally, we all had a Kindergarten connection too
(Sandy & Dawn at McKinley, Peggy & Penny at Grant, and Vicki and Lana at
Roosevelt). Our goal has been to spend time together, catch up on everyone's
news, and HAVE FUN. We have had some memorable experiences together in Chicago,
Milwaukee, Mexico, Lake Geneva, and Moline. We were named "Mexican Jewels" the
last time we were in Mexico by a charming restaurateur who is a friend of
Vicki's - the name has a great association to fun times, so it's stuck ever
since. That's it!
