Herbert Alvin Wykert, a longtime resident of Lombard, IL, passed away on
February 24, 2024. He was born on July 3, 1942 in Moline, IL to Alvah and Vera
Wykert and grew up in East Moline and attended East Moline High School where he
met his wife, Carolyn Stotmeister, of 58 years. They raised their family
together in the Chicago suburb of Lombard.
Herb worked for Eastern Airlines from 1965 to 1991. He loved being able to go on
vacations with his family, especially to Key Largo and Orlando, Florida. For
many years Herb and Carolyn enjoyed getting together with friends for their card
club. Herb was a huge St. Louis Cardinals fan, enjoyed reading westerns, and
listening to Johnny Cash music. He spent time with his children through Boy
Scouts, Indian Guides, and Indian Princesses. He also served at church as an
elder and helped with the altar guild. Mostly Herb and Carolyn enjoyed spending
time with their family, especially their grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by both of his parents. He is survived by his wife
Carolyn Wykert, his three children Tracy (Steve) Locanto, Thomas (Victoria)
Wykert, and Cynthia (Dale) Cain and his seven grandchildren Rebecca (Randy)
Wilharm, Peter (Aleah) Wykert, Julia Locanto, Anthony Locanto, Rachel Wykert,
Joshua Cain, Kiersten Cain, and one great grandchild Oakley Adelaide Wykert.
A memorial service will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church in Lombard.
