Captain Ronald L. Root, U.S. Army passed away on November 30, 2019 at the age of 77, at Banner Thunderbird Medical Center Glendale, Arizona.
Ronald was born on April 21, 1942 in Atlantic, Iowa. Ronald graduated from United Township High School in 1960. Ronald married Elizabeth Ann Wentz in 1961. In 1961 Ronald entered the U.S Army. He served honorably in the Vietnam War as a Helicopter Pilot. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Med, and National Defense Service Medal. After 11 years of honorable service with the U.S. Army, Captain Ronald Root, received an honorable discharge and later worked for IH Farmall Works Plant in Rock Island, IL for 10 years, before relocating to Phoenix AZ in 1986.
He is preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth A. Root and parents Lloyd and Dorothy Root, and brother Gary Root. Those left to cherish his love and continue his legacy include his three sons’: Steven Root, Cambridge, IL, Michael Root, Phoenix, AZ, Gregory (Rebekah) Root, Cambridge, IL. Four grandchildren: Morgon and Colby McCaw, Cambridge, IL. Christopher and Britany Root of Warsaw IN. One great grandchild Jonathan Root, Warsaw IN. Brother Dennis (Amy) Root, of Reynolds, IL and several other relatives and friends.
A Memorial service and Burial at the Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal, IL will be held at a later date.
