RANCHO PALO VERDES, Calif. — Kay Ferrier Bourgeois of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., passed away April 1, 2018, with her loving family at her side. A memorial service was held June 4, 2018, at St. John Fisher Catholic Church in Palos Verdes, Calif. Many family members and lifelong friends attended. Kay was cremated and will eventually be reunited with her soulmate, Art.
Kay was born April 17, 1942, in Moline, to Donald Schermerhorn Ferrier. She was the youngest of five children. Kay graduated from United Township High School in 1960.
Shortly after graduation she went to California to visit her brother, Charlie, who worked for the Southern California Edison Power Company. Charlie helped Kay get a job with the company.
When Kay lived in Los Angeles, she temporarily lived in a women's boarding home near the Edison Company. There she met two lifetime friends and moved near the ocean in Manhattan Beach where they shared an apartment. The three women remained friends until the day Kay passed.
During this time, Kay met the love of her life, Art Bourgeois. They were married Aug. 10, 1963. Kay and Art raised three sons and two daughters. The youngest son lives in in Austin, Texas, and the other children reside in Southern California. Kay and Art have eight grandchildren.
Eventually, Kay returned to the work force and was the executive administrative secretary for 19 years at TRW, a defense company. She also assisted Art in his carpet and upholstery business.
Kay is survived be her husband of 55 years, Art, of Ranchero Palos Verdes, Calif; their children and grandchildren; sisters Norma (Raymond) Ewing, Virginia (Leo) Hugaert; sister-in-law, Pilar Ferrier; brother Kieth Ferrier; and aunt, Mary Carson.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Charlie.
