Obituaries
Maurice "Bud" Bradley, 71, of Galesburg, formerly of the Quad-Cities, died
Saturday, May 24, 2014, at Seminary Manor of Galesburg.
Memorial services will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 29, at Esterdahl Mortuary
& Crematory, 6601 38th Ave., Moline. Visitation will be 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday at
the funeral home. As he wished, cremation rites have been accorded. Memorials
may be made to the family.
Bud was born Aug. 2, 1942, in Clinton, Iowa, son of Maurice and Alice Bradley.
He was raised by his mother, Alice, and his stepfather, Ron Smith. He proudly
served the United States Air Force. He married Marcia Whitney in November 1963.
Bud Bradley started work at Riverside Products in 1972 and served many roles
over the years. His favorite was traveling out and about meeting with customers
at the scrap yards. Bud moved around a bit in the industry, leaving Riverside to
work for Newell Inc. and Bradken Foundry. He eventually found his way back to
Riverside in 1990 as an account manager. Bud mentored young sales people who
were eager to learn from his experiences and he was happy to help. Bud, who was
always light-hearted and a great guy to work with, retired in 2011. He was a
fixture in the industry for 40 years and will be missed by many in and around
the recycling industry as well as customers who turned into friends.
Bud enjoyed boating, gardening and building things. He was prepared for
everything and always had a "Plan B." Above all, Bud enjoyed taking care of his
family.
Survivors include his wife, Marcia; children, John Fitzgerald Bradley,
Davenport, Denise (Warren) Ratliff Jr., East Moline, David Bradley, Davenport;
grandchildren, Shawn (Ashley) Bradley, Derrick Rhodes, Katrina Rhodes;
great-grandchildren, Jackson, Juliet and Juliana; stepsister, Holly; cousins,
Dick Van Zuiden, Bill Van Zuiden; special friends, Mary Ellen Mullen, Lyle
Johnson, Cody and family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Maurice Bradley, and his parents, Alice
and Ron Smith.
The family would like to send a special thank-you to the nurses and doctors who
assisted him in his last days of life at St. Mary's Hospital in Galesburg and
Seminary Manor. Most of all, the family would like to thank Jesus Christ for
giving them the most wonderful, funny, loving and special father.
