James J. "Whitey" Soucinek, 69, of Coal Valley and Naples, Fla., passed away
Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011, at University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, Iowa City.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Church,
Moline. Visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at Rafferty Funeral Home, 2111 1st
St. A, Moline. Entombment will be at St. Mary's Mausoleum, East Moline.
Memorials can be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
Whitey was born July 11, 1942, in Moline, the son of Joseph and Shirley Price
Soucinek. He graduated from United Township High School, East Moline, in 1960.
After college at Northern Illinois University, he worked in Chicago in sales for
Smith Corona Merchant. In 1970, he founded Advanced Business Systems in Moline.
He married Cheryl Windy on Jan. 9, 1965, at Sacred Heart Church, Moline.
Whitey was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Moline, life member at Oakwood
Country Club, Coal Valley, and Twin Eagles Country Club, Naples, Fla., where he
wintered. He was an avid golfer and was well-known in the Quad-Cities.
Survivors (and spouses) include his wife of 47 years, Cheryl; son, Brian (Amber)
Soucinek, Moline; grandchildren, Tanner and Britta, whom he truly enjoyed
spending time with; sister, Pam (Chuck) Naert, Carbon Cliff; aunt, Dixie Worth,
Geneseo; brother-in-law, Ron Dixon; and his two beloved pets, Maggy and LuLu. He
loved his friends and often told them so. He was preceded in death by his
parents and brother, Joel.
