Tips
-
Buy one good travel guide book of the area that
you are traveling to. The Rick Steve's and Frommer Guides are very good.
-
Take one good area map and city maps of the larger
cities. Most book stores carry these maps. Also, some travel guides have very
good city maps in them
-
Carry a note pad and keep a daily diary on events,
expense, reminders, etc. Also, a note pad will be necessary to communicate
with the natives.
-
A small foreign language dictionary may be
necessary for long trips (more than 3 weeks) but is usually not necessary for
short stays. They can be somewhat cumbersome to carry around.
-
Carry an address book containing important phone
numbers.
- Foreign language translating computers and gps
navigation devices can be helpful on a non-guided trips.
- A small supply of calling cards.
- Phone calls to call home from the lobby.
- Never make long distance calls from your room.
- Pack a small pocket camera in addition to your
larger camera.
