Money & Currency
Tips
- Use American Express Traveler's
Checks. Place receipts in separate location such as luggage.
- Carry $200-300 in foreign
currency.
- Carry $20-30 one dollar bills.
- If you are robbed of your passport,
the U.S. Embassy will not issue you a new passport without payment. Make sure
that you have a back up plan for getting money quickly.
- When traveling to Third World
countries, keep small change for pan handlers.
- When leaving a country, get rid of
your loose change. While you can exchange paper money in most countries, you
cannot exchange loose change.
- Beware of money changers. Make sure
you know the exchange rate and amount before you exchange your currency. Know
what to expect.
- In some Third World countries, such
as Morocco, their paper money cannot be taken out of the country. Be sure to
keep your paper money supply low or spend it all before you leave.
- Check the Internet for the latest currency rates
or at your local bank.
- Estimate your expenses before you
leave. Have a day to day budget or plan.
- Dollars can be exchanged at most airports and
cities overseas.
